Upgrading a 77, with a Weber 38ADLD 150

Post by coise »

I need some help on what to do if I want to upgrade my 77 spider with a Weber 38 ADLD 150 . Unfortunately my car has the accelerator linkage with the ''drum and spring'' type.
What do I need to change if I want to install a 38 ADLD?
Thanks for the input

you need the cable, valve cover and linkage mounted to the valve cover and the rod from the twist linkage to the carb. it is a very simple change

Thanks, Beek
What cable type should I get?
Also sorry for my ignorance what do you mean by "rod from the twist linkage to the carb"?

Thanks again

Here is what I´m trying to do:

I found a 38ADLD150 in Italy and my car is in France, so shipping should not be so bad. :)

Just and update.
I install the 38ADL (primary 175 secondary 200) on my 77 and what a change!!!!!! this thing is nuts it has lot more power than my previous 34ADF.

The only thing is that at idle the engine runs a little ruff. Any idea on the ruff idle at around 1000RPM?

I have to inform you that I have adjustable cam gears with 40/80 cams, high compression pistons a 4/1 manifold with 2.25 exhaust system, and Mark's distributor less system set at 12 degree advance.

Thanks for any input.

Hi!
Why don't you put on 2x44 IDF with with those cams and exhaust,it would boost power!

Isn't that a function of the cam as opposed to the Carb? My 38ADL idles smoothly.

Thanks for the inputs.
2x44IDF is not an option for me, I use my car in the summer only and I don't want to spend my time tuning it every year.

As for the cams I will try to tweak the timing a little to see what happens. Maybe not enough overlap...what do you think?

This carb is great specially when the secondary barrel opens up it feels like a turbo

You don't say what your idle jet size is, or if you tried adjusting the idle mixture?

Primary is 200 secondary is 171, and yes I tried turning the idle mixture screw. Also the carb is brand new unused old stock.

Precisely the reason why I keep mine and refuse to move to dual 44's like a friend of mine has :)

Jetting (like Csaba says) is also a potential. I seemed to have to back out the mixture screw further than I'd anticipated when I set mine up - however - it runs just great, isn't overly rich, and is fun.

Perhaps the timing could be tweaked, do you have adjustable cam gears?

Finally some sport cams just have a lumpy idle... what does the manufacturer of yours say?

Hm, those sound like main jet sizes, idle jets sizes are usually in the 50-60 range, or thereabouts.

Aren't those jets the wrong way round?

Primary 170, Secondary 200??
