What year is that engine? Is that the cast aluminum Vortec or the cast iron ( marine ) block? How are you getting the 300 hp? I thought the stock with a 4 barrel was closer to 150hp?
Stock hp is roughly 165hp with 235ft lbs of Torque...
My engine has a highly modified hydraulic roller camshaft setup that enables me to put out that kind of power. The engine has been bored .030 over and fitted with flat top pistons meant for a small block Chevy v8. That with the vortec heads gives me about 10.5:1 compression. The heads have been beefed up with screw in studs and the spring seats have been pocketed to eliminate the coil bind can that occur with the high lift cam i am using. The cam is a hydraulic roller setup with roller lifters and rockers with roller pivots and roller tips. The cam has .525" valve lift at 290° adv. duration. The intake is an edelbrock #2114 and the carb is a Carter AFB 625 cfm 4 barrel. All of that, headers and 2.5" exhaust is what is producing the power...

Yup over a decade I have been working on the second car.. the first one was put together crudely and quickly in about a year or so...
And yes I will revel in the moment when the second car fires off and i make that trip around block the first test drive.

Appreciate the sentiment.. in fact it's the communication I have on fiat spider dot com that keeps me motivated to complete this thing. I enjoy it and appreciate everybody's comments and suggestions.

Thank you everyone! :)

Here's the rough in of the cutout for the distributor.
I need to figure a new method to latch the hood. I'm thinking of moving the latch toward the windshield.

Could this be an opportunity to hinge the hood at the rear, like "conventional" cars?

pins are a way to go... but definitely change the look of a hood .... but didn't I read you might be chopping a hole in the hood anyway

So far Matt, I think I'm going to able to avoid it. Hood pins are the last resort. I did that on v6spider 1.0..

That's an interesting thought Bernie.. although I'm pretty sure I can relocate the latch closer to the windshield..

Cheers!

Finished the firewall cutout for the distributor. I also figured out where and how to relocate the hood latch. The hood will have no hole, the air cleaner will be under the hood. I'm having an air cleaner custom made to fit.

of course I believe what you say but looking at the pics you would swear no way that thing would fit under a hood :D ... anxious to see the air cleaner ....

I have to cut the center brace on the hood in order to do it and put in a cross brace for support. But it can be done there is roughly 2" or so of clearance after cutting the brace.

Cheers!

unless you live on a very big street, that spin around the block may be too fast to enjoy considering the hp you've got there. :D

Just curious Rob, are you planning a lever or pulley system to route the cable back or are you bringing it through the firewall on the passengers side?
Well done!!
