my lash caps showed-up!

now... had I been really, really smart... I would've measure the clearances before installing the lash cap. but I'm not that smart right out of the box like that. So now I'm trying to come-up with a way to measure this without yet AGAIN removing the cam tower from the head. :?

The top-hats are a beautiful solution. They had .25mm to the keepers (but thanks for the heads-up on checking that!).

If there is no cam tower to head gasket, reinstall one. Not what you wanted to hear but it works. Once you install the gasket let it settle overnight before taking measurements.

yeah, Daniel said the same thing to me on the phone tonight... :? y'all are right, of course... but I'm not sure those bolts can handle another diss-assembly / reassembly!

I'm kidding, of course.
thing is, if I do this, then the shim kit that we are discussing in another thread is more likely to have all the shims I need too. :|

I guess I'll do it.

the latest issue of FSC has a good article about valve springs from Comp Cams. Here's a link to the information on their website

"Purple" is the designation given to this grind by the cam grinder. I guess he uses color-coding. I dunno. But in the original post to this thread, I linked to a different thread where I first heard about them too. And I had to ask about 'em... just like you just did!

It's ALIVE!!!  8)

I fired 'er up this evening for the first time since I gutted it in February :!:

It cranked twice, and fired right up. I ain't gonna lie.... it sounded wicked!

Of course, it's firing through the header, no muffler or pipe. But that cam has a serious lope to it! teeheehee.

I ran it for about 20 minutes, looking for leaks (none) weird sounds (none) and smoke (none I didn't expect) and then shut 'er down before the cops showed-up.... 8)

I need to button a few things up, re-install the dash (I pulled it back out to fix a minor issue) install a seat and then I'll run it up to the exhaust shop to have the system built.

Then I'll need to spend some time tuning those big 44's to this altitude.
And I think I'll pull the cam-cover on the intake side and degree that cam again. I'd like to be double-sure it's where I want it.

I decided this evening that I need to get Mark's distributorless ignition setup. But until I can rationalize the $$ in my budget, I'll use this vacuum advance electronic one.
Can anyone suggest a great way to pull vacuum from these webers for the advance unit? Should it be from under the throttle plate? or above it?

with those full-race cams, I'd use manifold vacuum to the dist, it will help the idle without having to open the throttles so much
