The last 2 Weber 32/36's I did had that same problem. The high idle linkage was sticking. I turned the screw that holds that linkage out 1/4 of a turn, and the problem went away. Maybe the screw sits too deep in the body. Try to unscrew it 1/4 or 1/2 turn, and if it works then use some loctite on it and reset it.

Hi John.

"High idle linkage"?

I found the primary-secondary linkage of my carb was binding somewhere during the transition to secondary operation: One of the linkage arms was hitting the point of the secondary throttle shaft nut, a little extra twist on it and it now just clears.

My FIAT to DFEV throttle linkage solution is still rubbish, seems engineered to break throttle cables at regular intervals and I'm not getting full deflection at the carb.

Thanks,
Mark

I was referring to the screw that holds the linkage attached to the choke. It is just behind the choke body. Initially I thought it was also the linkage that was hitting the secondary throttle shaft nut.
I haven't had any issues breaking cables, and my linkage to the carb works fine, I just had to trim the linkage arm that I got from Mark, so I can't help you there.

Hi John,

Were you able to get the original ballstud out, or are you using the empty hole at the end of the bellcrank too?

I'm thinking bending the arm end more toward horizontal might help a bit too?

Thanks,
Mark

Sorry Mark, I did not have to replace the stud on the bellcrank. Although I don't see why you cannot use the outer hole, unless you don't get enough throw one way or the other.

Hi John,

The outer hole doesn't line up right, requires a bend to clear the breather hose, and seems to contribute to binding at the limit.

Thanks,
Mark

From looking at mine, it seems that the ballstud is pressed in and tack welded. Maybe you can cut it off flush and then drill or press out the remainder? My breather hose is routed to the firewall, next to the brake booster with a filter on it, I didn't hook it up to the carb.

Hi John,

Well, I found that little bugger and backed it off about 60deg and the next four miles were the best yet!

If I can figure out how to get full throttle shaft rotation and then limit pedal travel on something other than cable tensile strength I'll finally be done.

An otherwise easy job deviled by 'hide the ball'; but the second thing everyone should do to their '75-'78 1800 Spider.

Thanks again, to everyone who's offered help and guidance,
Mark

Mark, Just buy the ball stud from Pierce manifolds. You only have to remove and replace the one nut on the primary throttle shaft and eveything hooks up. Just like Joe's setup.

Glad that helped. So now just a matter of getting the linkage adjusted properly. I know I had to play with the linkage rod length a few times to get it where I wanted it.

You can plug with 18mm x 1.5. Disconnect the smog pump belt as well since you won't be needing that.
