Hey Beek, that is one shiney head. Wonder though I have heard two points of view..polished or "swirled" ports. I don't want to open another can of worms here, but what are your ideas on that? I have a massaged 1800 head with big valves on the shelf and wonder if I should have the ports touched up a bit. They are matched to gasket and a set of headers, but are smooth inside.

if your head is matched and smooth
then it has been ported and polished
i wouldnt mess with it any more

Porting heads is a learned skill, you can kill the performance of an engine easily with improper port configurations, making certain areas larger and such, can actually hurt the performance. Gasket matching is one place where wrong doing can really hurt a motor. Some people make the mistake of creating an expansion area, where the head opens up in the port then necks down after the match, on the intake the port should be slightly larger than the manifold, and the exhaust the opposite. Thanks Beek. I did'nt do the work of course but had a fellow that has built a fair number of engines and bike engines (drag bikes and drag snowmobiles) I'll have a look later and see if these virgin eyes can spot any difference.

the front water jacket is the issue with fitment, it will directly bolt up, but the front water passage will have to be welded up to a smaller size, use the 1800 head gasket for a guide. it can be done, is it worth it? depends on how much welding and resurfacing costs

if you can find one a 1592 head, same as an 1800 but no emissions, i belive the combustion chamber may be a few cc's smaller, but i dont remember. im sure someone here will chime in with that knowledge.

Im comverting to FI this winter and will use this 1600TC head, that means I will have a 1800TC (european) head without emissons left over when its done.
You can also use a Fiat Ritmo 130TC head and port the intake a little bit so there will be a more straight angle to the valves, that will make it similar to the 1600TC head.

unfortunatly the 130tc head is not available here in the usa, it is a much better casting as i have been told, but i have never had my hands on one. i would love to have one though. price one for me including shipping

The head in your second photo is not a 1600 head, it is an 1800 head. The 1600 head has symmetrical bowles, not offset in 1&4 as shown. Sorry dude.

Depends on the 1600. The Regata 100S is a 1600 twincam with 84 mm bores, probably the same motor Swede is talking about.engineerted wrote:Swede,
