sorry, another question about interior lights

I'm here again...sorry but i have a question about the little light wich is near steering column, where is ignition switch. If i put on bulb, it lights when i close doors and courtesy light switch off and it always stay on. I think this is not the right way, am i wrong? i think that this light helps when i have to turn on tha car and i have to put key into ignition switch, so i think it may be on when car is off and off when car runs, isn't it?
