Ignition Coil

Post by punes »

I have a 79 Spider with the electronic ignition. I have a coil with the heat sink and module.
My question is can I buy just the coil? If so what kind and where? Is this a Fiat supplier only part?
Might seem like an odd question but I am under the impression its difficult.

Reason is the car seems to have to crank about 3 times for about 10 seconds each time before it'll fire.
I'm thinking it might be the coil. I also am running dual carbs 40 IDF's.
Thanks

Anything is possible, but it is probably not the coil.

Most of the Fiat suppliers service the coil as an assembly, with the heatsink & module$$$. I used an Accel coil. Most regular parts stores show the same coil as fitting most Chevys made in the last 25 years and many other cars. I think internal or external resistor is the biggest thing to look for.

The battery has plenty of power and the carbs are receiving fuel. I have a manual choke and it seems to start better using the choke. But I figures maybe a stronger coil might help.
