air horn

Post by green75 »

does anyone have any info on the horn. I still have the two "trumpets" with 2 hoses but that is all. some one had once put in an electric horn but I'd like to go back to the original. where was the compressor mounted, how was it wired in? I have no info on it in any of my books. thanks, Sean

The typical "repair" involves snipping the air hose, removing the compressor, and installing an electric horn in its place. Electrical conection formerly on the compressor goes to the electric horn. The horn relay function is unchanged. To return to originality, reverse the process.

Insects, etc. often ruin the diaphram of the trumpets, and the plastic hoses deteriorate, so oftentimes it is necessary to replace the entire assembly. Here's one: http://www.international-auto.com/index ... sid=870755

You can also buy this one, but incur the wrath of Mike Bouse: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=40134 They both look and sound the same. Mount the compressor with the outlet "UP"

more than insects can ruin those fragile diaprams, trust me. Don't even think of spraying compressed air if any kind toward the bell of the horn.

Couldn't get that IAP link to work, Bernie.

I prefer using WOLO horns. they are american made:

Sure, you can save a few bucks on that cheap CHINESE crap-0-la, but ask your neighbor what it feels like to be out of a job. Who knows, yours may be the next one that is sold to them.

thanks I would've probably used the old horns. I forgot about IAP for parts as I refer to them for repair info. the wolo site is great though, you can hear the horns before you buy one. now I can sound like those ferrari's that were in front of me at the show last year!! thanks, Sean
