Cold Start Valve Replacement

Sorry for my ignorance

Small issue is that when cold, the car starts great; but after getting heated up (say driving to the store), it needs to be babied the next time you start it... giving a little gas and slowly laying off.

Bought this Cold Start Valve to try replacing it as a starting point?

Is it easy to replace? Does fuel shoot out at you when you take it off?

Also I realize this could well not be the problem, but wanted to rule it out and didn't mind the cost to find out

I'd say you need to return that item and look at the coil and control module.
Your cold start will always be an issue during a cold start. But heat soak is an issue like your describing is an issue normally to do with Coil or control module.

For context, it was the 70 year old sicilian guy in long island city where I take the fiat sometimes. After telling him my porblem he said it may be the cold start vavlve ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Again, just wanted to rule it out

So I was inspecting the ignition coil etc this morning, and looking at some old posts on the forum... and I realized that the wire going from the pedal to the ignition coil is a bit loose... and there's aways been a little play on the pedal.

I'm not able to figure out how to tighten it.

Yes, both screws on same side, as shown, but take out the slack.

I’ve looked under the steering wheel and there doesn’t seem to be a screw to tighten. On other side…? Sorry again this forum is a big help, I appreciate any advice.

Loosen the nuts One is a locking nut. Screw it in until you take out the slack but not all of the slack.

This didn't solve the rough start issue but now there's no play on the pedal

you might need to move the nuts to the opposite side, and add one more return on the winding roll?

I was able to pry off the old decrepit cold start injector (was saying valve but its more an 'injector'). easy to take off, very little oil spills/or sprays when you take it off.

So far the replacement part seems to have fixed part of the problem.... *fingers crossed* as of now, I don't have to baby the gas pedal when I start the car up. Will have to keep an eye on it on longer journeys to see if it really did indeed fix the problem.

Only remaining possibly unrelated issue is that only the Check Engine light comes on when the key is simply turned to the 'ON' position without starting it. I know that the break light, check engine and seatbelt sign are supposed to come on for a few seconds then go off, but its just the check engine that is staying on. When I start the car it goes away. Maybe just a random loose cable or something.

The next thing that I did when I brought my car home was to take the injectors off the fuel rail and out from the intake manifold. I sent them out for evaluation and cleaning.

Thanks to recommendations from Matt @ Vick Auto, I replaced 4 inexpensive parts that looked super decrepit: Temp Sensor, the Coil / Control Module, and the Oxygen Sensor.

The car starts noticeably better.

I feel it could still be *slightly* better, and have still to closely inspect all the injectors
