interior update Need Help and Ideas

Post by fixitagainhunter »

Hey all first post here and I am excited for some feedback. I have a 1975 spider 124 and I am tearing out the interior and updating it. I'm thinking I'm going to go with a single dash insert no glove box. Pulling out the dash pad fixing the cracks and painting it white with the matching teal racing stripes. Then matching the center pieces with the white. I'll paint the single piece dash insert and shifter section teal. What are your opinions? Anything helps thanks guys ( I'm posting some pictures of what I got)

Dashes are made black for a reason. White and other light shades reflect a strong image on the windshield reducing visibility. Before you go white, take a white towel or sheet or something and lay it on the dash and drive around to see if you are ok with the reflection. White upholstery is very difficult to keep clean and pristine, particularly in a convertible. You may want to think seat covers over the upholstery to preserve it during normal use.

Since you asked........
I get what you want to do, but....... I am picturing a white, teal, and black interior. Personally, too busy and confused.

I say stay with all black. If you paint anything white, beware of scratches and see-throughs. I find SEM vinyl paints go on very thin and scratch easily.

Teal accents on a black interior may look good. Teal steering spokes? Shifter plate? center dash frame?

Bottom line is; make it what you want and be happy with your efforts :D

Ditto...

The local Fiat dealership had a GQ 500C with the white interior that they were practically giving away and even at a lower price than a Pop/Base model they were having trouble moving it. Imagine keeping a bright white steering wheel, arm rests and head rests still brilliantly white in a convertible. That could end up being a full time side job.
