I want to update my ignition to stock 79 dist and coil in my 73 and wonder if I have to bypass the points change-over relay and if so how? :?

You don't have to bypass the relay, just be sure the green wires that used to go to the points don't get grounded.
I'd put some heat shrink tubing on them.
