ignition switch wiring? 1972

Post by htchevyii »

So the ign switch in my '72 took a dump, no power and no spark. I bought one
from Val, but mine has a terminal "16" that the new one lacks. I don't see the
#16 terminal listed in the wiring diaghram, but it has power only during
cranking, (start). There was a black and a blue/red wire attached. I was able
to get the old switch to work by connecting the ign wire to the unused "INT"
terminal, but can't figure out how to connect the new switch.
In Brad's diaghram the blue/red goes from the "INT" terminal to the fuse box.
Anybody else ran into this? thanks, Trey

Sorry can't help but will follow your progress. The ignition on my 72 is missing and have just bought a used one from a fellow parting out a 74. I hope they go together cause electrics ain't my strong suit.
Good luck Trey

Dang, wish I was home so I could help you guys out with the wiring. Trey, IAP sold me a newer model switch for my 72 and they were able to tell me how to wire it to the correct terminals. Try calling them.

Trey....did IAP help? I should be back in town Sat or Sun and will let you know how mine is connected. I also have a 72 and replaced the ign. switch with a later model switch....everything works as intended. If I am not mistaked the INT spade is the same as the #16 spade that was on the 72 ignition.....Let me know. John

Thanks, I haven't messed with it anymore, since the old switch is working at the moment. After studying Brad's diaghrams, it looks like both of the wires in question should go to the INT terminal, so I guess i'll just figure that the P.O. just screwed it up like everything else they touched.
