I picked up this Grant steering wheel at the Rose Bowl flea market last week and applied a little elbow grease, stain, and lacquer. The darker color is intended to match what I envision for my current '69 project.
Here it is as I bought it. The clear finish wasn't in great shape, and it was cracked from shrinking in several places.
I started with sanding, then tried some paint stripper, then back to sanding again.
Once the sanding was done, I added some mahogany stain to match the planned interior of my current '69 Spider project.
A bunch of coats of clear lacquer finished it up, and I think it looks great.
