I hear you Fred. One of my least favorite Fiat activities is trying to undo an electrical hack job done by someone else.... My '69 spider has been in the family since new (i.e., no hack jobs) and my '71 had only one minor hack job on the headlight switch wires to the fusebox. But my other 16+ Fiats have had some real issues.

On the steering column stalk switches, AutoRicambi has new ones for $90 but for 1972 to later, although they can be adapted to fit the earlier cars. The biggest issue is that the horn contacts were different.

I have drilled out the rivets in steering stalk switch assemblies and taken them apart, cleaned everything up and replaced contacts, and they worked fine after that. Send me a PM if you want to discuss how to do this, or I might be able to be talked into doing it for you if you shipped me the assembly. No charge. But, fixing bent copper contacts is do-able, but fixing melted plastic assemblies just isn't that easy.
