Rear brakes

I have a 1983 Pininfarina spider (original owner). Taking it out of storage this spring and after I drive a few kilometres I noticed that the left rear brake is hot and if I try to push it in neutral there is a lot of resistance. After sitting for 5 or 10 minutes it releases and I can push the car with no resistance. Could it be that the hand brake is sticking and if so could I disconnect it and see if that solves the problem ?

Could the issue be a slight amount of corrosion on the brake rotors?

A good friend of mine has a large car collection and he has experienced brakes dragging from a slight amount of rust that has built up after a 5 or 6 months of sitting.

Typically a few hard stops will remove the rust on the rotors, maybe try this?

I'm not very experienced with the Spider brakes, so I'm not sure if the handbrake could be the issue, but I would do a visual check for rust on the rotors.

Thanks for your reply. The rotors look ok I just spoke with friend who is a mechanic and he suggested the the calliper piston might be sticking and could free up with use

You'll definitely need to get some caliper grease on the brake caliper wedges. If they're dry it can cause binding.

Update on rear breaks. Turned out to be blocked flex hoses to rear brakes Now all good Thanks for the advise Brian

If hoses are original or you are unsure of their age, you should replace all 5. The 4 at the wheels and the one from the body to the rear axle which is often overlooked. Mine plugged and caused both rear brakes to drag. And yes, well done on keeping your classic all these years.

Similar situation here...
Took my better half for a spin in the Spider Sunday with several stops along the way.
Got back to the garage and my wife says there's smoke coming from the back of the car.

Took a look and both rear wheels were literally smoking hot. So much so the plastic caps on the lug bolts were melting :shock.
Checked that the ebrake was off (it was).
In neutral you could easily push the car back and forth so it didnt seem that the brakes were dragging and there was no scraping sound of pads on the rotors.

Sounds like there's new pads and hoses in my future.
Just as I finally got the carb issues sorted out ( except for a slightly too high idle).

I have had that happen in two different Spiders for no apparent cause, no clear fix. Went away on it's own.

I always assumed it had something to do with the master cylinder piston being too far in in the rest position. Never could reproduce neither the problem nor any fix.
