Correct Battery for Pinifarina Spider

Post by Grover4535 »

Would anyone know the correct battery for a 1985.5 Pinifarina spider?

I really need the dimensions, cranking amperage, and most importantly the battery hold down area needs to closely match the OEM battery. The battery fits very tightly in the far right side of the trunk, and if not secured properly will hit the upper fender area ( which did appear to happen twice with the former owner).

Thanks in advance.

Bob, I don't know so I'm not much help, but what I would suggest is looking at tables of battery dimensions from a particular manufacturer. Here's one for Interstate batteries:

Measure what you think you need to fit inside your battery tray and then see if any of the Interstate battery dimensions match up. If you have an owner's manual for the car (or can get ahold of one), it probably lists the size in that.

I wouldn't worry too much about cranking amperage as most modern batteries of the right size will be able to supply enough amps.

PS: I did find one reference to someone using a AutoCraft 86-2 battery in their '84 Pininfarina spider. Seemed to fit, but some modification of the hold-down bracket was required.

It is the Group 24 battery size. make note of the orientation of the positive and negative batteries. 24F is a popular import size but the polarity of the post is reversed from what you need. Should just be a 24 or 24 m for marine. you may want to consider a deep cycle battery based on your anticipated use.

Thank you both for the reply. I have an Interstate battery outlet locally I will check in person with.

I installed an Optima Red Top size 35 from Advance Auto (#16940003) on my 83 Pinin. Great battery/warranty and fits perfectly.
