First you need the cable to be slack so remove the cable completely from the pull rod from the e-brake. With a pair of vice grips remove the ball end from the arm. You will need to pry the hat retainer clip from the body of the caliper, this will require lubrication and likely prying to get it out of the caliper. Getting the hat clip out of the caliper will allow you to remove the cable from the caliper.

I will look around for some pics of the parts.

The image of the cable shown here: http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/62/61 ... able-a.jpg
You can see the hat clip next to the spring.

Hmmm. Not good enough?

A cable isn't that expensive, I would tend to cut it to have a nice new one.

If the cable is frozen in the housing you may have to cut it.

Just park it at the bottom of the hill. Who needs brakes anyway.

Thanks for the replies, I was able to loosen the adjuster under the car, that gave me much needed slack. The cable came right off the caliper. With the added confidence, I removed the other side (right caliper) cleaned, inspected it and put it back.
