1980 fiat spider fuel pump

Doesn't the fuel pump run briefly when you turn the key to acc. then starts the engine when you crank? I think my fiat is only starting on crank. Takes awhile to start. What should I check? Hope it's not the relay.

On an FI '80 the fuel pump does not run until flap on AFM is moved by the engine cranking and drawing in air. Moving the flap with the ignition on is how you test whether the fuel pump is working.

If you have an automatic put it in reverse and turn the key to start and the pump will run. Your fuel system is supposed to hold pressure for a long time. It sounds like you have a leak in your system. It could be injectors, pressure regulator, fuel pump, or fuel lines. Best way to know is to hook up pressure gauge.

Mine start as soon as I the engine turns over. I have had the injectors cleaned and flow matched.
