I second what Dinghyguy says. He's shown some pictures of his car on this forum, and that metallic blue is truly magnificent. Makes me even consider moving to a different color than my "boring" red. Maybe. Well, maybe not... :D
Well!! I had a look at some of Dingyhuys pictures and we are getting close! Can you tell me the paint code for that colour?

Cheers,

Jordan

HI Jordan. Out of curiosity have you discussed color with your painter? If you show him the colors you are favoring he may have a strong experienced opinion on a particular color. This coming from the guy who's currently painting his 80 boring factory 312 green! LOL

That was the original color on mine two tone with dark blue on the rockers along with matching accent stripes. When the really bad red started pealing off and my daughters saw that underneath they really pushed hard for me to change it from the red back to the original blue metallic.

Hi Dave,

Yes, we had a good chat when I took the car over for a quote. He liked the idea of blue/grey.

At the time I was leaning toward Porsches Graphite Blue Metalic as I thought it was a modern interpretation of the flat solid colours of the sixties.

Personally, and that really is the point. Colors are so personal. I like the color on the first Porche you posted. The 911 Turbo is Purdy. Reminds me of the light metallic blue on the '63 Corvette. Ultimately you will find a color you like. It's your choice so no wrong answer

Finally remembered (had to learn again) how to post pictures.

Here it is mostly assembled with the new colour. The colour is 1973 BMW Fjord Blue. This is the only photo I have at the moment as I keep thinking I have more details to complete and will get to the photos later. My latest excuse is that Dave (davdbruce) has a grill surround that I need to pick up and get installed before the front is complete! It will go nicely with the driver's tailing and a rear seat that also came from Daves' house!

The picture is close to what it looks like in real life and I am very pleased. It has the retro-sporty feel I was hoping for and it gets comments everywhere I go.

Thanks again for all of the advice. Apologies it took so long.

Now, what to do about my user name.....

Jordan that looks awesome. And those wheels go really well with that color. The really funny thing is. I owned and repainted an early 70''s BMW 3.0 sedan in the early 90's. I thought of that color when you were looking for sugestions and showed the first Porsche color. But after so long I couldn't be sure of the color code or if I even painted it the original color. But it sure looks the same. Well done and thanks for posting the pic.

Yep, you'll have to change your from Burgandy81. Which would be a lot easier than a color change. Just be aware that for a properly done color change, you are committing to completely disassembling your car. Motor out, and so on. If you can't do that, I'd keep the original color.

I agree the silver blue of the 275 GTS is awesome.

Since this is a post about color, thought I'd jump it.

I current color is cherry red 136 1979.
wanting a deeper red. the Dar red 191 seems to fluster the paint shop. they have the Monza 113 formula
any ideas for those who knows these reds better than I?

Geo, try this website:
http://paintref.com/paintref/make/red_Fiat.shtml

If you want to look at other Fiat colors, or other manufacturers, go back up to front page of the website and go from there.

I know the OP is about a year old but I was going through the same thought process recently about color change.
Before I even read this post I chose a light blue metallic as not much went well with the tan top and tan interior.
One resource I used extensively to look at and get a feel for nearly every paint color was a video game.
I downloaded a free trial on my PC of Forza Horizon 4 which features a 1981 fiat 124 spider.

Hello.... I have a 72 Spider with the dark red/ burgundy color. My choice for a darker red is one from KinDigit Design- BAD BLOOD.

Paint: Modern Classikk by Kindig (AkzoNobel) "Bad Blood"

https://www.kindigit.com/gallery/41-chevy-coupe/

The pictures don't do the paint color justice, so watch the episode to really see the color. From what I understand it is a base coat/ clear coat and not a candy color with many more layers and steps to prep and apply.

Good Luck,

Bob
