Original horn colour?

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Original horn colour?

Post by MattiR »

Dear fellows,
I have original FIAMM compressor horns in -71 Spider, and after cleaning they look light blueish. Under that I can see bare aluminium grey. Been through hundreds of photos in internet but was not able to find what is the original colour for horns.
Does somebody know? Thanks in advance!

On my 68 they are silver/aluminum. Never been painted.

Hehheh, this is funny!
Literally ”you are welcome” is something what you say when somebody enters your home. Why do we reply this way when somebody says Thank you. Very interesting.
On the other hand, in Finnish language we reply ”Be Good” when somebody says thank you. No logic there either.

My friend Ismo has studied the magic of words even further:

I just restored a set of horns and installed them in my 1979. as best as i could tell they were unpainted aluminum except for the undercoating overspray. They had been installed in front of the rad. so i cleaned them up as best i could and painted them aluminum color.

cheers

Ps "Angelina: owned by Dan is a really nice car, i saw it live a few years ago.

I've owned 2 different 1972 124 Spiders and both of them had trumpets that were painted the same shade of blue. I don't think it a coincidence, I bet they came that way from the factory. At least in 1972. -Steve

Thanks Steve,
This is interesting because the trumpets in my car were painted with light blue paint as well.

The horns on my '74 were black. I can't guarantee that they were original, but if not they were painted a long long time ago based on the wear.

My 80 had them in flat black plastic. Unpainted I think. I redid them in Italian Green when I cleaned them up.

For those with faded blue horns, I believe "Ford Blue" is a perfect match to the original color.
