Removing Stickers from Chrome Bumper

Post by jbarrec »

Just purchased a 74 Spider (red with chrome bumpers) and there are a couple of bumper sticks on the car.

What is the best way to deal with this? First thought is to use a hair dryer and something like Goo Gone.

Do you think this will leave a mark where the sticker is? How do you recommend dealing with this type of situation? I've never worked with chrome before.

I've heard that these work great (3M Adhesive Eraser), but I've never tried one. Supposedly you can use them on painted surfaces too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NFfjCmSkD4

I think you have the right idea. Just polish the chrome to remove any residue.

I use Decal Remover, Goof Off Adhesive Remover, Citrus Oil, WD40, etc and a plastic razor blade. Works best when the bumper is warm and you want something with a light oil in it to lubricate the plastic razor and bumper. Cleanup afterwards with acetone or 100% alcohol followed up with a good chrome polish.

The plastic razor blades and the holders are usually less than $10 and available locally at Marine, Automotive and Hardware Stores.

Here is an example of one at Ace Hardware:

Also, I've used a hair dryer.
