Keeping headrest up

The darn headrest will not stay up. Not that the Spider is good in a crash, but having a headrest that is too low can create a nasty cervical whiplash situation.

So, I want for find a way to keep the head rest up. Hopefully without taking the new seat upholstery off. Any ideas, tips, "strokes of genius" ??

I tried a foam block, painted black, but even after letting it dry and cure for a month, it stuck to the vinyl

You didn't mention how much higher you need to move the head rest, but you could look for some black plastic spacers at the local Lowes/Home Depot store or get a piece of wood cut to the desired thickness and drill two holes to fit the head rest support and paint it black.

Try mixing Cialis 20 mg in some petroleum jelly and gently apply to the headrest shafts.......it will stay up when the “moment is right”



Now back to a real answer: there should be a “spring clip”(cotter-like pin?) that the posts go through; and the clip clicks into the indentations on shaft to keep it a pre-determined levels . I think you should just be able to add them. Take head rest out and go to hardware store

Thanks folks,... although I am not sure that taking MORE meds will help. But then again,... what could possibly go wrong?!?!

I had the same issue. My solution was to find some tube/pipe that slides over the headrest post. I cut 4 pieces about 5 inches long to match where my head would go. The base of the pipe/tube butts up against the top of the seatpost insert. Metal or plastic tubes whatever yoiu have laying around. I think my tubing was a window curtain holder in its former life LOL! Never throw anything away!!

Now that is an interesting approach,... I will have to take a look and see what is laying about in the workshop.

The problem with a spacer to keep them up, is that there is nothing to help keep them down. In other words, they can just come out the top of the seat back. The metal rods of the headrest slide into metal tubes in the seat back, they are held in place by metal clip pins and the detents in the head rest posts. If your head rests easily slip up and down, your pins are likely missing. Unfortunately the only way to get to them requires removing the upholstery. The pin is commonly referred to as a hitch pin or hairpin clip.
