Injection problem with ecu

Hi all,

I am new here, I have a 1981 Fiat 124, 2000 injection (American model). This car was bought from Germany and shipped to Malta, however after a few weeks of enjoying her the car just died and haven't managed to start again.

The engine would start for a couple of seconds on the cold start injector, however would not fire up on the remaining injectors.

I have done a technical check with a test light on all pinouts of the ECU connector and in the past point of the troubleshooting test it said replace ecu.

Can you please advise if you thing that the ECU could be repaired ? Any suggestions where I should send it, preferably in Europe. Or can you advise when I can find refurbished units or new old stock?

Any help would be appreciated as the car has been sitting here for 6 months.

ECU is bosch jetronic 0 280 000 190

Any other suggestions on find a solution would also be appreciated.

RARELY do the ECUs fail. Typically it is the dual relay that is bad.Check that first as it is a lot easier to obtain and cheaper.

Yes that was my mechanics first thought however we tried connecting the ECU with another Fiat 124 exactly like mine and it had exactly the same symptoms, and didn't run.

So we are quite sure it's the ECU that has a problem.

More help on the matter would be appreciated.

Have you tried a known good ECU in your car to be sure it will run??

You might try posting your need for the ECU in the Car/parts wanted section of this site.

No I haven't tried using the ecu that worked on the other car as the owner didn't want me to take his ECU.

Is your fuel pump running when the engine is cranking?
instead of building a new fuse panel when FI came Fiat just added an extra inline fuse to the fuel pump circuit. On my car the factory fuse holder was not making contact with the fuse consistently and it would die suddenly, or not start, so I replaced it with a normal AGC inline fuse holder; problem solved.
Plus, I've done diagnostics on my ECU and dual relay at times when the diagnostics showed a replacement was needed when it turned out it wasn't.
