Rubber window trim

Post by Gerard Del Monte »

Any gen on how best to install new window trim rubber? It seems to go into a pressed sheetmetal channel. I can get it easily enough into the main trough next to the side window, but for the life of me cannot reliably secure it into the channel at the side vent window.

Will I need to remove the indoor door panel and the vent window assembly to get proper access to the sheet metal channel? Jeesh.

I removed the chrome strip from the door, inserted the window scraper rubber into the channel. Where it didn't fit, I gently pried it open until the stip pushed into place. I then gently pinched it back together. Note the emphasis on "gentle"? After 2 years it still looks good and fits perfectly.

Pry off the chrome trim, eh? I'd be hesitant to do that, afraid of warping or bending it. Is there a suggested technique for doing this?

Gerard, they are just held on by little clips on the molding. I use a flat screwdriver with the end taped so I don't scratch the paint and gently loosen it from the door, working it loose from one side to the other. You shouldn't have a problem with bending the molding.
