Convertible Top Hold Down Cable length

Post by BakersChoice »

Does anyone know the length of the hold down cables for a cs2 top? I've been looking online, but I can't find any specs for them.

I have a new set. They are 64 and half inches long from tip of the eye to the end of the cable.

I have a cs1 top but I doubt it makes a difference as you never see them listed by style of top.

Good luck

That's per cable? Yikes didn't realize they were that long.

Thanks.

The cables I have are aftermarket and maybe for multiple applications.

I'm pretty sure they are longer than required too as I have seen pics of the cables ends extending way past the clamps that holds them down in the back. They probably get trimmed back a bit when done.

Too long is better than too short though!!

That's true! But aren't they supposed to be a certain length to keep the tension? I'm thinking if they're too long they won't be able to tension the top down properly.

With the top latched to the windshield you loop the front to the pins on either side of the front bow and pull the rear through the clamps with the excess cable using a pair of pliers or your steely vise grip fingers tightening the clamps before before letting go. You need enough excess cable to get a good grip so you can pull them tight.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice. I'll cut my cables to the same length as yours and hope all goes well.

Don't fall victim to the "dang, I cut it twice and it's still too short". Cut after everything is all tight and bolted down!
