Electric Fuel Pump Install Question

Hello all, i will be installing a Electric Fuel Pump for the first time there wasn't one in the trunk were all the remaining parts were when i purchase the car i will be using this pump here in photo #1 my 75' truck is picture #2 an #3 and my question is do i install it to the line that has the old filter on it along with the new filter i will be installing also?

The picture in the last photo #4 i found online, but there's no filter before or after the pump is installed. Not sure which way would be the smarts efficient installed, would like a few opinions or to know if the setup is correct. feel free to share your setup photo also could be helpful.

The pic you show of a pump does have a filter on it, it is the first section of silver cylindrical material on the pump. I wouldn't choose that type especially screwed into a plastic pump as it would be easy to bugger the threads. I would tend towards a translucent one in front of the pump with a second near the carb. I use a glass bodied filter in both places with a replaceable filter which is easy to replace and to see the condition of the fuel and the fact fuel is actually flowing.

As yours is a 75 and came with an electric pump you may already have the following or versions of the following and if the PO deleted any of them you could add these:

A fuel pump relay, as an add on I would choose the VW relay which gets a signal from the coil to continue to run. It runs the pump for two seconds at the first turn of the key and then gets it's timing from the coil firing. You can find the BW part in most any junk yard for little money. An inertia switch which would shut off the pump in case of an accident would be an important feature to include as it will trip if the car rolls or is hit from most any direction. Again these parts can be found in any junk yard, you want the switch and the pigtail to it to make wiring easy. There was a recent discussion on this forum recently which can be found here:

15 is the power from the ignition switch to the relay and the coil, 30 is the fused constant power from the fuse box/battery, 87 goes to the fuel pump, 1/31b is the wire from the coil to the relay which trips the timer to run the pump

The relay could be housed under the dash with a wire to the coil and the rest of the wiring would all be local save for the one wire (from terminal 87)back to the pump or in this case to the inertia switch which could be right above the pump in the trunk.

Great info guys i'll test the 2 red wires that are hanging from the left corner of my truck and trace them first i just might be lucky on having to do all the wiring over again myself

another thought....you may want to hook up a manual on/off switch for the fuel pump.

if your car gets winterized, it's easy to treat the gas, get the car running, then turn the fuel pump off so the carb (or carbs) run dry, rather than sitting all winter with fuel in them.

the other benefit is as an anti-theft device. my 1975 came with one partially hidden under the dash. i took a slightly different approach and hid it in plain sight. underneath the left side of the radio in the picture below is a black knob with a headlight symbol on it. without pulling the knob out, the car won't run. it may not deter a professional thief, but it will deter a casual one (or kids looking for a joy ride). i know it's there and it's defeated me a few times.

Ok guys got the tank cleaned out and reinstalled along with the new electric gas pump need a little inspection from you guys, i installed the gas filter as recommended to install on in the inline before the pump and o'course it was recommended to install the pump as close as possible to the gas tank. What do you guys think of the install does it look correct?

Also does anyone else have this all green wire in photo #2 inside there trunk also? i still haven't ran power to the pump yet hoping to track down the green wire and the other 2 wires in the trunk to the left in my earlier post, i'm hoping to get lucky and just have to plug and play meaning one of these wires was to the old pump previously

The green wire is coming from the side were the other 2 wires that connect to fuel sending unit are coming from.
