ICCO Ottawa NEED TO VENT RESOLVED

Post by 4uall »

Sept 29 2011 I purchased my very first Fiat (Fiona) and was introduced to a local car club ICCO Ottawa. Long story short some nice events, great people, lots of shared knowledge and life experiences etc etc etc. Since day one I had noticed that there had seemed to be a broken down system of communication within the club. There would be scheduled events and then things would change (life happens that way) yet no one would communicate, or only a select few would actually know what was going on.Blah Blah Blah (never seemed to improve and by no way am i saying this is always happening however,).

A week today is my wedding, my beautiful, caring, understanding wife says " no honey, you have been awesome with all the work, planning etc you go to your cottage event with ICCO Ottawa and have a day to yourself" (without her and our 5yr old son) with your Fiat buddies. Excited I had planned for this and the day comes today and I arrive at 9:10am at the designated meeting point eager to see some friends and have a great time at the cottage, had wine and homemade food in tow. :D 9:30am comes and goes still sitting alone in the empty parking lot waiting (in denial). 9:45am still no one :x A couple who had come in from Perth (quite a distance) came and went.

It blows my mind how in this day and age with all the technology both low and high tech we seem to have a club that is ineffective in communicating to its members. This has happened one too many times for myself, no disrespect to others however, I am done.

Jay - I sympathize and have experienced the same issue. Now I always check the web site before venturing out. But this event is still posted on there for some reason! You can vent more Monday night at the Pub Night, if you go. I have confirmed that it's still on.

Thanks, Peter. I always double check the sight etc. I even send emails (rarely answered) to the sight. Just incredibly frustrating time after time.

No point in venting at the pub night, it will change nothing. This is more of a behavioral issue.

Hey buddy, sorry to hear about the ICCO mixup.
Freag, I thought there was a pub night tonight, lucky I checked the events page at ICCO. You know I hate to drink alone...
Not!
Wasn't up for the last one in BarfHaven at the strip mall. I was up for the previous location on the Rideau, but I had just got my baby back from the bodyshop. Joe at Milano's did a great job and I am really happy with my "Vietnam" stainless steel bumpers, they look great.
Tell you what Jay, let me know when you have a free day away from the kid and wife (BTW congrats on that marriage thang!) and we can take a nice tour up the Gatineau Park and have a few pints at MY cottage. A little closer than Ron's and only 300 feet of gravel road.
Maybe see you next week at pubnight, if there is one...LOL
Either way, if you can make it, we'll share a pint and hassle the servers.
I'll bring candies.

PART 2

I was convinced to attend our local Pub night last night by my awesome Fiat friend (see Dan above) and.............................................................................wait for it................................................................................you probably know what is coming next.....................................................NOBODY ELSE SHOWED UP :x

What is the point of having a club if no one shows up; there is pathetic communication etc etc etc etc time after time after time

May look to start a new club myself for those who actually want to participate and those who appreciate what we have. Pretentious people will be denied entrance.

Thanks for listening/reading

Dan, you are awesome and thanks again

Jay, sounds very frustrating. Similar here in RI in that most of the folks live 40 - 50 miles from one another and depending on traffic can be 1 - 2 hours to get to your destination/social event. Kind of hard to do in an evening. Most folks seem to want to do the occasional weekend drive if they are going to get together. I guess we are an independent lot :)

You want some cheese with that whine buddy?
Just kidding, I was shocked when I got to the pub and there was no reservation made for ICCO.
Glad you showed up.
At least we had a good time Jay, raggin' the server, watchin' all the sights on Preston St. sharing Fiat stories and beer.

You're right, maybe we should start our own club....
Montreal has a Fiat club and an Alfa club, Toronto also has both. In Ottawa we already have an Alfa club but no Fiat club.
Maybe it's time for a divorce from ICCO and create the "The Fiat Ottawa Club" aka "FOC"
We'll have to pronounce it very carefully
Just thinking of some great T-Shirt logos...

"FOC is fun"
"I always FOC on weekends"

I lived in Ottawa for almost 7 years. Was a member of the Ottawa Jaguar Club for 5 years. Great people. Always doing something or the other. Meet up every week for breakfast. Genuinely interested in the cars and just driving. No hoity toity'ness. If you just want to join a club to explore Ontario a bit, they are very welcoming folks. It doesn't matter what you're driving.

I've had my Spider for 13 years now, and I've never found a good club, FLU or otherwise.

Now I just roll on my own. I bring my car to any car show where my Spider might be appreciated and I just have fun with other car lovers. Some of the best times I've had have been spent parked next to Cobra replicas, American muscle, Italian classics or British sports cars, without any other Fiats or Fiat clubs in sight, and my Spider has been truly appreciated by many of them.

So go it alone, it's not so bad...

Too funny, I was just talking with a friend of mine about possibly starting my own club. Then again, I may just say f**k it and be a lone wolf or keep a small wolfpack

The irony is I was recently informed of a video that was produced of an event that the ICCO participated in, and it was never shared with the group or website. LMFAO!

After some emails back and forth, it would appear that the communication issues are finally resolved :D

I have been receiving all communications as originally requested which is very refreshing after a long time.

The club removed the pub nights. I assume in an effort to focus on the larger events 8)

Looking forward to a great & successful 2014 year.
