Hissing Brakes in Ottawa RESOLVED sorta

I have been doing a lot of reading on this topic however, I am a much better visual learner When the car is running and I apply the brake ( with little pressure) there is a hissing sound that immediately comes from the pedal area (inside). I am hoping to make a video tonight. When the car is not running and I apply the brake it feels normal and reacts as it should. i have heard "you need a new booster", "you need a new master cylinder", "you need to bleed the system" etc. Here is what I have done with no change in the symptoms. I have not lost any brake fluid and it remains at the Max level, I have bled the system, there has not been any recent activity with the brakes (was working one day then the sound just started), I have the AR silicone kit on her and i double checked the vacuum booster line and check valve and both seem fine. The brakes do work however, when applying (parked or moving) the engine starts to bog down (shake and shudder and finally stalled (first time last night). So if there is anyone who is reading this and you are in/near the Ottawa area and could lend a helping hand to a great guy with an even greater sense of humour please let me know. To the others I welcome all tips, photos, videos etc in an attempt to correct/fix this issue rather than me just going out and buying all new parts without identifying the cause

sounds like the diaphragm in the booster has failed

I had the same noise and brakes when the car was running were not great. had a very hard brake application to stop the car. Bled the brakes several times and same thing with the brake application (noise & hard brake application) Changed out the booster (there is a top and bottom you will find out when hooking up to the brake pedal) and all is good after a good bleeding and acorn nut adjustment.

Jay, did you remove the vac hose from the booster and plug it? If so did the hissing stop ?

To be clear I would remove the end from the brake booster valve and plug the line? Bottom right

That is correct. I believe a 1/2 bolt will fit snug.

Jay - Who else do you know in the Ottawa area? I think Mark hit it spot on. You have a sense of adventure - order the diaphragm and figure out how to replace it! Or plug the line and do without boost.

@Peter probably the same group as you (ICCO folks and at least 3 in my own neighborhood) I have no fear of doing any work myself however, I love to learn and I find I learn best from those who have come/done before before me. I have developed a real passion for Fiona and sadly I do not have a mentor to learn from so I ask out loud from time to time I also find it really counterproductive to throw $ at an issue if someone knows the answer.
