Front spoiler on a 1980

Post by 124cso »

The front spoiler / air-dam was missing from my car when I bought it and suspect it was wrecked at some point. Judging from the dents in the sump, the car has "grounded" at some point.
Before I order a new spoiler, can someone with a similar car (heavy tube bumpers & std 13" wheels) measure the distance from the ground to their car's spoiler on level standing ? I live in an area with "mountable kerbs" and want to be sure I can get in and out my own driveway first.

Thanks in advance

Depends what profile the tires 50/60 ? As long as I know I can probably work it out.

I would certainly go out right now and measure for you, but my spoiler is missing too! A new one just arrived in the mail yesterday and is going on when the weather clears. I can get you the distance to the mounting edge if that helps.

Where did you get the spoiler? I could use one as well.

get the spoiler of Mark allison >>Click here for his website<<, (he also runs this forum) that is where I got mine from

Have you lowered the spider at all? I have and have 125 stub axles, the measuremnt may be pointless. I have also installed an Argenta sump (also have it baffled) to avoid the common problem of the ice cream container 2 L sump

How did you go with the fuel pump??
Also check out brad's web site http://www.artigue.com/fiatcontent/book ... 124_MM.pdf all CSO owners should have copy of this, it list the bosh number as Fuel Pump

8" from floor to bottom of spoiler. 1979 tube bumpers stock suspension, 165X13 tires on stock steel wheels. It is the original factory spoiler.

@JammerX: I got mine from Autoricambi, (new) but all the vendors seem to carry them. Haven't opened the box yet, but everything I have bought from them has been well packaged and shipped quickly.

Mine is 8" from the floor. Note the lower valence is 101/2 inches from the floor, so you lose about 21/2 inches of clearance with the spoiler. Got mine from Allisons.

It shares the hardware with the front end splash shield, I will take a pic a little later and post it.

What about installing on a '72 that never had one? Can it be installed or is there too much custom work required?

Thanks

The bolts go into threaded holes, but some were stripped and I had to put nuts and lockwashers behind them. Not sure if the original holes are nut plates, welded nut, or just threads in the metal or whatever. I also extensively modified the splash shield so that you don't have to take it (and the spoiler) off to get to the oil filter. Here are some pics:
