Toasted my magnetic pickup wire :(

Post by Fiat88 »

So after doing some work on my spider today, I warmed her in the garage. I shut her off to check to see if my coolant leak was fixed. Didn't see any leaks :) but then saw the white pickup wire resting on the exhaust manifold. :x About 3" of wire insulation got toasted black but didn't expose any wire. Do you think it would be ok to still use, its only about 2 years old or should I replace it soon?

If you see no exposed wire conductors and the car runs ok I would keep it. You might consider purchasing a spare just in case you have a problem in the future

I'd be a little worried about the integrity of the insulation. If the car is running OK and you don't want to change it then you can:

> (more attractive solution) put some heat shrink over it
> (less attractive solution) wrap it in electrical tape

For now I just black taped it up, was gonna heat shrink it but the connectors are too big. Will order a spare just in case.
