Synthetic Tranny Oil

I've noticed on the forum that Spiders require non-EP oil in the transmission, but does that have an effect on using synthetic oil? Can any type of synthetic be used, or is there a special type required?

The two I know of are Redline and Royal Purple. The sulfur compounds in most gear oils could cause harm.
