Starting problems

Hi!

Sometimes I have problems to start my 1974 Spider. Usually it starts at once

, but as I said sometimes nothing is happening at all

. Well I can hear the fuel pump, all the lights is working , but nothing from the starter!!!!
Then I can wait for some time, or try 5-20 times, and suddenly it starts again.

Do anyone have the same problem, and what is the reason?

it could be a poor connection at the solenoid, or worn contacts inside the solenoid, or a worn ignition switch or a poor connection at the brown wire coming from the ignition switch. You need either a voltmeter or test light attached to the starter solenoid and check for voltage when the problem occurs

I forgot to tell that the problem only appears when I the engine is warm/hot. It never happen when I start the engine for the first time.
The problem is getting worse the last week . Maybe because the weather is warmer, I do not know.

Do I understand that it starts if you wait for it to cool off? I'd look to the starter motor if it only happens when it's hot.

Yes, when It`s cool of , it starts at once !

Unless someone else has a better idea, I'd say you have an internal voltage drop in the starter motor. It needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

it depends on whether or not the engine cranks and won't start, or won't crank
