nice update!

Hows your sitting high compared to the old one? does the bulge under the drivers seat touches the car frame? I need to go thru the same process. Got me a mig welder but have not been able to make big welds just little dots.... but thats another story!!.

the car came with some 80's toy celica seats when i got it, those were just junk. i wish these were lower, im still sitting too high when the top is closed but i can drive it. eventually i want to got to the recaro race seats, i will make a lowered floor first then mount the seat, and a nice custom hardtop will help. the seat doesnt hit anywhere, so i could have lowered them about 3/8", but that would take a bit more work. i just needed something to make the car drivable, man i hate seat installs with a huge passion, miatas are the worst car to mount race seats in for tall people.

heres what i did to my shop's main miata we use for tall drivers like me, carbon fibre bubble. the SCCA voided the cars Log Book because they thought this was a unfair advatange, what??

That roof reminds me of when I was working in a service station in 1974, in Seattle. (Back then there were really "service" stations.) I was working at the one chosen to fuel the cars for John Wayne's movie, McQ. One of the cars brought in was his personal Pontiac station wagon. Even though it was a big monster, he still had the roof modified with a bump to give him head room.

I have a fiberglass Miata top and it's about a foot short of fitting a Spider

Mark, maybe we can design a new one....

think about it.

most Spider owners would like a hard top... but price is often an issue.

hmm, I will work on this.

Even in our relatively mild, Vancouver Island, Canada, climate, it is just too cold and wet to use the spider all winter. I'd be interested in a hard top.

I've been working on my welding skills. and here is an update on my miata seats installation.

1.I removed the seat mounting towers in my Fiat
2.got the mounting towers from a miata.( 1,2 and 3 from each side)
Image

3.and weld those to the fiat floor. ( had a little trouble on the drivers side as is not
very uniform but solved by welding a flat piece I got from lowes)

cellphone pics (sorry)

I'll get pictures of the seats in place soon, but finally they seat about the same high as the original seats. I want to clean the floors and apply a spray-on bedliner I got, its called Raptor.. we'll see how that comes out.

I also plan to do something like this to the turn lights found some plastic lights that are slightly bigger that the front holes. they hold a bulb similar to the bulb used on the stop turn lights. I was surprised by how they look when placing them behind the holes.

an last have anyone tryed something like this:
http://www.hydro-dip.com/
I really would like to see somethind like this done to my dash pieces Iwas planing to cut new pieces myself but wood is not my forte and I have an '83 and the center piece is a little more complicated to fabricate... what do you guys think?

Could you give us some more info on the lights, they look great.I would consider removing the bumpers with that setup for the lights. To me,the worst item on the Fiat are the seats. No lateral support for aggresive driving. When driving hard thru the mtns.,I find myself bracing with my knees.I have a line on some nice ,racing style seats but will be interested in your Miata swap.

this is how the seats look... I'm 5'10'' and I feel they are just right in size and love the support...Kind of miss the old style but I don't think I can afford one of the reproductions and have the same comfort from them.

Ok the lights... Its kind of and idea under development but I like what I'm seeing

I found this lights in my garage: regular rectangular ones.

Image

I think we can mount them from behind... now the problem is how? also I dont want any light going going inside the fenders
but I think we can trace the siluete of our spider odd holes on the lenses and paint the outside black or I'm even considering black silicone like the one used on windshields that will probably work for both purposes hold them in place firmly and block light to the inside.. I'm open to ideas

if we find some a little bit more convex they'll fit better. we can even put some fog lights in there.
