Changing gear ratio
Would anyone recommend or not changing the gear ratio of a '77 from the factory 4-30 to a 3-90. What would be the ramifications or advantage of doing this

Re: Changing gear ratio
I feel the 3.90 is the way to go. It helps out with highway driving by lowering the RPMs a bit. Stretches out all the gears a so you aren't constantly shifting while driving around town. With first gear being so crazy short it is nice to be able to drive through an intersection before shifting and not shift in the middle of the intersection.

+1. First is too Tall, and 5th is too Tall! Could get away with a three speed, just using 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Re: Changing gear ratio
A 40/10 was installed om my 83 2000, I swapped it back to 3/9 in the spring. I do notice a difference, 1st dosn't wind out and I have not used 5th around town. The car does feel more comfortable to drive if that is what you are after. I did alot of looking here, My concern was getting the wheels on true, One reason that I swapped it out.
