Rear Swaybar bushings

Post by Spider951 »

Rear swaybar bushings on my '81 are in bad condition and need replacing; I don't see the bushings in your catalog (except with new swaybar kit). Am I missing something? What are my options? BTW nice job on the catalog; the internet is great but it helps to have a printed resource like that.

The rear sway bar kits come with polyurethane bushings and are supposed to be lifetime bushings. I know they do wear out eventually but you're the first person I know of to have that happen on these cars. We can probably get a new mounting kit separately from the bar but it would be all the bits, not just the bushings.

To get just the bushings you will probably need to measure out everything you can and find a spec listing from a bushing company to match them to.

OK, thanks. I have only owned the car for about 2 years and have no clue what the PO did regarding the sway bar. The bushings look like rubber to me and not high quality at that. The sway bar may have been some DIY effort from the looks of things.

That could be. If it works well and seems to be mounted well you could try pulling the bushings and matching them through your local parts store. That is assuming they know how to use a book and look things up based on sizes.

I sourced new bushings for my rear sway bar from prothane. its a 5/8" bad and the endlink bushings are also easy to duplicate. I did not save the part numbers but it was real easy
