last year i gave my wife some air horns for her '78 Spider. they were quite grungy and a paint job would suit them fine, having been rescured from a '74 parts car.

well, she decided on a deep red/maroon color, and i chose a black for accent. since they were so nicely painted, i could not picture hiding them between the grill and the radiator, so i mounted them on the passenger fender (inside of course).

well, this winter i had a set of cam covers powder coated to match. What do you think?

i am gonna look at painting that fan and that t-belt cover next. looks like the grungy coolant recovery bottle could use some help as well.

The horns and covers go well together and not too over done.

the red plug wires clash with the different shade on the covers. Please rectify that, it hurts my eyes 8)

If you go with yellow plug wires you don't have to paint the timing cover. :wink:

Its a good thing that Krinkle doesnt come in that shade of Maroon. What songs can she play on the Airhorn? Land of Dixie (Daisy Duke) and U of M fight song?

no, those are traditional Fiat Fiamm air horns. they play beautiful Italian music. I just painted them the lady's choice color, and mounted them prominently, rather than hiding them. :wink:

hmm, yellow wires? that sounds interesting. and a whole lot less work than pulling the fan and cover, dismantling, priming then painting. and, i did notice a nick in the coil wire last night as i moved about. Who sells yellow wires?

and, as you can tell, i have been reading with rapt attention about everyone's chosen method of cleaning the overflow bottle. I can attest that sand with water is not a good method.


hmmm.... maroon crackle.... now there's a thought....

Mike, did you see the picture of my bottle after I used the sand and water technique? It looks like new. Did you shake the bejeebers out of it? Maybe you left some bejeebers in it.
Seriously, maybe the plastic is discolored on yours, mine (luckily) was just dirty. It worked for Matt and me, but I don't know what you mean by "it's not a good method".

i never saw bejeebers. are they those little red things that look like miniature lady bugs? bite like heck, and ....

Uh, yeah. For me, playground sand and water and a LOT of shaking turned out to be an exercise in exercising. plus, sandy water squirted all over my shirt and in my hair; good thing it was just my Allison's Automotive T-Shirt i was wearing, and not an important shirt. I shook until my arms were tired, and the bottle was just as grungy as before....plus it has sand in it now. Do you have any idea how many gallons of water it takes to get a spoonful of sand out of the bottom of a big square bottle with a quarter size opening? apparently about 20 gallons. Yeash!

So i broke down and spent $22 for a new bottle. That, my friend, is the old man way of doing things. Try it once the cheap way, then break open the billfold for a new part.

Did you take the bottle out of the car? I have this picture in my mind of you putting in the sand and water and shaking the car. :D

Pope's right though, it is a lot easier with the bottle out of the car.

is that an 8mm you need for that coolant recovery bracket nut? Dang...



one of these days, i will get one of these cars ready for the road...one of these days.

Woops, Mike I forgot to specify DRY sand. Once you pour out the sand all you have to rinse out is some dust. By the way these guys have been on you like rust on a fiat for the past few days about those crinkle cam covers. Dont let it get to you "car-ma" is a bitch.

You bought a new bottle? Wow, that's what I would've done....I don't like getting sand in my shirt and hair. :mrgreen:
