Tuning - V6spider

Post by v6spider »

So over the past couple of weeks I've been driving and tuning my 4.3L Vortec V6 powered spider. For a quick reminder..
The cam is a hydraulic roller cam from COMP Cams.
225° duration @.050 lift .. .525" valve lift with 1.5:1 ratio true roller rockers. I've discovered that it likes no more than 34° total advance @WOT. Whether it's a v6 with a roller valve train or a 4 cylinder with dual over head cams the tuning principles are the same I think. Also having the fuel/air ratio gauge really helped with my tuning efforts.. I had to swap to a couple sizes larger jets in the primary to richen the mixture as it was running too lean. But I also discovered I had the timing too far advanced which was showing on the gauge as too rich. The overlap of the big cam was tricking me into thinking it was necessary to advance the ignition timing further than it was supposed to be.Image

Cheers!
