Hello all,
Since I am of very limited mechanical ability, I always appreciate the exchange of information available here.
It is my plan to overhaul my (150,000 mile) engine within the next year or so. I currently have a nice running 2L, but am getting closer to go for it and go for the most performance oriented overhaul available. Since I won't be doing it myself, I just want to arm myself with the most knowledge available from all you experts out there.
If there is such a thing as a build list, I wanted to get your thoughts on exactly what those that know these things, would request for this type of build.
I am looking for a bullet point list if you will from top to bottom (and side-to-side) of what you would ask a shop including specific brand names, specific to the point of exactly which brand of head gasket, etc. you would request.
Thank you all in advance,
Performance engine build list

Re: Performance engine build list
If you had a professional Fiat engine builder do the work, and guarantee it, you may go with what he recommends. I would recommend Jon Logan @ Midwest 124. The more full blown it gets, the more you need to compromise. Such as compression rate, pistons and machining the block. Lightened flywheel? Over a thousand bucks to build the head? Not that I worry, but you can invest more than you will ever get back. After checking my bore, I honed my stock block and installed new rings on the original pistons. Since I had the intake side (Carb, port matched intake), and the exhaust side done, I had my head ported and installed a intake cam and adjustable cam wheels. The lightened alum crank pulley is a boost in itself, and for a few more bucks' alum aux and water pump pulleys complete the deal. I also like my crank fire ignition system. New rod and crank bearings. I am still breaking her in, but I am very happy so far. Another option I did is to install a Lambda sensor and gauge to monitor the fuel mixture thru the exhaust. I bought headers with the O2 port. I have a turbo muffler, but need a resonator to quiet her down a little. So your list will depend on what the engine needs, and how far you want to go. I expect my first speeding ticket soon Dave

Multi Layer head gasket .060 thick
allisons automotive Fiat 1800, 2L Multi Layer Steel Head Gasket
4.5 mm done pistons
http://www.autoricambi.us/product/EN7-4 ... RFORMANCE/
good valve springs and cam profiles depends on the kind of performance your looking for
http://www.autoricambi.us/product/CH8-4 ... E--1978on/
http://www.autoricambi.us/product/CH7-0 ... RFORMANCE/
Clevite 77 Tri Metal Rod and if you can find them main bearings not sure if they still make the mains
Light Flywheel by Allisons good deal!
sorry tried to get the links for Allisons to work as well no go
Head work porting port match chamber work if the guy thats doing it understands the flow of the combustion
chamber.
High pressure oil pump but you cant find them someone has to modify a stock pump for you.
this would be the core of internal parts then you have the header intake carbs or FI? etc. Lots of options

Re: Performance engine build list
Any direction with regards to induction?
I'm certain I do not want forced, currently have 40IDF's.
Who has 44's out there that can chime in?
Thanks to those who've responded

A hi-po 2000 can use 44IDFs for sure.

I second that 44s are a good size for a 2000 engine and fiat waffle manifold.

I don't think it make any difference what manifold you use, as all will have to be ported for the 44s.

Re: Performance engine build list
The 44's work really well with some compression, cams and a header. I am running those on my current coupe motor, and have had them on an 1800 and another 2.0L in the past.
I would be careful with 4.5mm domed pistons. I think ended up with either 2.5 or 3mm domes on my coupe motor (85mm pistons and have no issue with detonation, but I went through a couple of versions before I ended up with the current version, which yields a 10:1 CR. Csaba, can you remember? Am I right re the dome height?

Re: Performance engine build list
It would matter to me cause the PBS manifold has tighter bends on the ports I prefer the fiat manifold.vandor wrote:I don't think it make any difference what manifold you use, as all will have to be ported for the 44s.
What head did you use that plays a big part on the CR?I would be careful with 4.5mm domed pistons.
