2.0 injection limitations
2.0 injection limitations
How many HP will the factory FI intake feed? I like FI, on some cars its better all the way around, on others its the severely limiting factor.

Re: 2.0 injection limitations
I was curious what kind of answers that question would get... sorta understand the response given... lot of horsepower increasing threads I read all seem to deal with carb engines... if one were to ask about increasing horsepower for a USA fuel injected spider .... the answer would be???? head work for better flow ? internal mods... ecu and injectors... ???
any threads about someone doing this already?? would love to make a wish list and slowly fill a box and a piggy bank for a snowy winter in the future
or if you really want gains loose the FI and get a carb .... ??
must be my lack of proper terms in search menu ..... looked for a while after seeing this thread before asking

Use your search words plus Fiat Spider on google and you will find all the threads you are looking for on fiatspider, com.
The search engine on this site is not the best.

Easiest way: get cool, outside air through a freeflow filter to the engine. It's virtually free HP, and getting cool air to the engine can give you 2-3% HP increase with no other mods!
After that it becomes a bit more difficult. You can't just modify one thing and get a big power gain, as you need to increase flow across the board. The exception is compression, but the only effective way of increasing it is with a piston change, so the engine has to come apart. Yes, a 1800 head will increase compression a bit, but not as much as you really need.
Once you have compression you can get better cams, modify the head/valves for better flow and get a header with a 2" exhaust system.

ok thanks for that .... way beyond my capabilities and wallet .... happy with how it is now ... thread just sparked the boy in me ... MORE POWER .... haha .... Matt
got the square hole in front ... maybe I will start looking at and researching getting cooler air to the box... or switch to the cone filter and run a tube pointing at it from same hole ... previous owner drilled a bunch of holes in the air box.. guessing a poor mans high flow filter

Here's what I've got a pair of. Haven't fitted them yet. Plan on running insulated piping up from the pair either to a plenum air cleaner (if I can find one), or some other method yet to be determined.81SPIDERMATT wrote:got the square hole in front ... maybe I will start looking at and researching getting cooler air to the box...

Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes....81SPIDERMATT wrote:if one were to ask about increasing horsepower for a USA fuel injected spider .... the answer would be???? head work for better flow ? internal mods... ecu and injectors... ???
I found with mine the best gain was as mentioned with headwork and then a set of Mark's 274 FI cams with the adjustable cam wheels and the whole works degreed in properly. Lots of pull and still decent fuel mileage and in town manners.
I have had stock, stock with 1800 head, added headers... Installed 84.4mm pistons. Balanced everything was a good move, rev'd easier I thought. But the headwork(on the FI head), cams and degree in was the biggest boost.
Ball-park guess$$$ wise...perhaps around $1500.00 or less ?

Re: 2.0 injection limitations
i did buy a lottery ticket yesterday ... then i could start a thread
It should be in progress soon,
A few more detailed parts to get together,
2.0 will be build to the max,but not a racer
There no budget on this,
not being snotty ... just plain old jealous

Sorry for any misunderstanding.... The about $1500 was for the head work, cams and wheels and gaskets. The degreeing was a flat of beer...
The whole lot was closer to $5000.00 I believe including the lightened flywheel. Too much really for what I get out of it. Would I do it again...maybe not.(do have a great rust free shell and considering a carb'd engine for that) There are a couple of great cars up here for around $5000.00 and I sold a great runner with real decent paint and top after doing a few repairs for $4000.00
All relative to what you desire I suppose...
