Hi,
im unsure on what spark Plugs and Leads to go with on my 1438cc 1969 AS Spider.
Im wanting good performance and good firing and was thinking of going with BOSCH Platinum+2's which seem to have a good write up with Magnecor KV85 Spark Plug Wire Set.
I just need to know if its neccessary to spend good money on these? OR does anybody have any other suggestions?

I prefer standard Bosch and NGK plugs-not platinum

According to Brad Artrigue's latest paper on Fiats and mods at: http://www.artigue.com/fiat he states or prefers resistor type plugs
I'm currently running Stock Champion non resistor plugs with Accel copper core wires and a 79 electronic ignition system.
The copper core wires offer the least resistance per foot of any wire. The car runs, drives, and idles great. I don't have any radio interference.
Whats the benefit or reason for resistor type plugs.

Using non resistor type plugs can actually cause the engine to suffer all sorts of malfunctions ie., erratic idle, high-rpm misfire, combustion abnormalities, etc. plus a host of other problems.

I also prefer the good old fashioned NGKs, especially with a carbed engine. I bought a set of Golden Lodge once at $6 a plug and they lasted 20 miles. A carbed engine runs too rich on startup and it doesn't help to clean them once they're carboned up. Now, my 99 Grand Prix came with platinum plugs from the factory and I have no problem with them.
I'm also running Moroso wires, but with a stock ignition system the Bosch would be fine.

I have a 1970 1438cc, basically the same motor. I use Cavis wires (from Obert or Reoriginals) they are the OEM spec and Marelli CW8LP plugs, available from Bayless (http://www.baylessfiat.com). I have alternated between Marelli and Golden Lodge plugs for years and never had a problem. I will run the Lodge plugs in this car when they come in - they are NLA but I found a new set in Holland. Platinums don't like the aluminum heads in my experience. Maybe in the FI motors where the burning is optimized but in the carbed motors I foul the crud out of them. If you need multi-electrode Bosch makes a non-platinum multi-electrode and if you can find them the Lodge plugs are multiple electrode as well. I think Autolite makes 4-electrode as well but you can't get the Auto parts guys to look them up IMHO.
So there you go. Keep in mind that nearly all plugs made today are far superior to anything made in 1969. You'll do fine with most Bosch, Champion, or NGK plugs.
