Distributorless ignition help
I have just started to put in mark's distributorless ignition kit and am swapping it from the head to the block and am wondering how I get the drive gear off the old dizzy and onto the new kit, the shaft on the new kit seems very small in diameter compared to the old shaft, should the kit have come with a gear?

the drive thru the bottom hole is completely different that the drive on top. as i recall the early dizzies had a straight spline thats like 3/8" diameter.

Re: Distributorless ignition help
The new unit has a spline which I imagine is to take the drive gear, but the old dizzy has a straight shaft around 1/2". The new unit has a straight shaft with a spline around 3/8". Always good to find this **** out when you have stripped it all down, was hoping to take it for a drive today.
Has anyone done this conversion on a 1800 motor?

My god, what a halfwit I am. Took the block plug out and there is a beautiful little spline hole in there ready to go. Hope this helps someone else though, that is someone as stupid as I am.

Re: Distributorless ignition help
Well I finally got it done and it is running sweet. Seems to have more mid range torque.
Only a couple of dramas, as it is a right hand drive had to remount the coolant reservoir to get it out of the way of the coil and the fork which holds down the dizzy had a different stud hole size from the head to the block and the block fork did not fit the new unit properly. Swapped them over and drilled out the hole (boy those forks are made out of very hard steel).
Apart from all that it went in and tuned real easy.

Re: Distributorless ignition help
we don't normally swap the hold downs. On the block side, the inside edges of the fork need a small amount of grinding to fit the trigger unit

Mark is a rev limiter required ?So Cal Mark wrote:we don't normally swap the hold downs. On the block side, the inside edges of the fork need a small amount of grinding to fit the trigger unit

Re: Distributorless ignition help
Rodman,
These units will produce an excellent spark right up to 12,000 rpm. The only rev limiter I have is when I feel the power dropping off, what is that red mark on the tachometer for anyway?
