Daniel, they don't know it's an Italian sports car, they think it's a MG and what can they expect from that.

I am sure your right but the fact i would have to accept a loss by a car like that would be just plain WRONG ! lol
if we took some turns then the true sports nature would kick in with the Spider but the stock power plant is so
boring and slow its not even a match for a basic KIA !

I know what you are talking about, Daniel. I wish I would have the money to by 70 more horses :D but than I also would have to replace my rear axle once a month. And let's not get started on the "additional" speeding tickets

I hear what you are all saying about a little more performance. At 2300 +- pounds these cars are pretty sporty in the 120 - 145 hp range even by todays standards. The rear end can take that type of power and over time with patience your car can get there. As mentioned earlier, it becomes a money thing at some point.

When changing around exhaust, getting rid of cats etc...how much do you have to worry about messing with back pressure? I've heard of cars not running well without proper back pressure....but it sounds like its not such a problem?

zero back pressure is not a problem, and is important as you get cams with more overlap

Just FYI removing cats is a big no-no no matter where you are at. A shop up here in MT pulled one off an old Ford truck and all hell broke loose.
If you are in a state that inspects be careful.

off-road use includes paved tracks, not just 4-wheeling :D

I wouldn't say it was for nothing.....I'm sure you obtained the desired results. I didn't see it in the Dakar highlights though

Shops can get in big trouble; owners, not so much. Do any states still do emissions for 25+ year old cars, which I think even the oldest Spider is now?

I used to tell the GA inspection people the resonator was the catalyst. The car would pass sniff anyway and the guy would just say "yeah, OK, it's a little far back but whatever..." Truly an stupid law when it determined that something existed, not that it actually did anything. Spiders, in stock form, were pretty clean burning cars.

I took a big steel rod and just jammed it through the cat to clean it out. It took me about an hour and I am probably producing a little twister inside the pipe now, but you can not tell from outside.
This summer I am going to replace it with a test pipe since nobody seems to care in Minnesota.

 Oooh, I am also using it only off road because there it is not bad for the inviorment!???

I did the same thing when the brick inside my cat created backpressure. Took a hammer and a two foot crow bar with a piece of wood between the cat and the ground and banged it out. It took me about 2 hours. The extra hour was spent grabbing metal net like material that held the brick in place with long reach pliers to twist and pull the wire out. You want to make sure all materials are out of the Cat box. There is a slightly tinny sound if you know to listen for it. K & N air filter and a removed brick from the Cat will most likely give you 10-15 HP cheap.
