Will DCOE Chokes Fit in an IDF?
I'd like to install 32mm chokes in my IDFs, and I think I can get as set from a friend, but they're from DCOE carbs. Am I going to need IDF specific 32mm chokes?
Re: Will DCOE Chokes Fit in an IDF?
If i remember correctly they are not the same . May i ask why you want to do this ? do you have 40 IDFs if so they
come with 32 mm chokes !

Most come with 32 mm chokes. I have a set of race prepared carbs that have 28mm chokes.

Oh yeah, the 32mm chokes are what's been recommended by two different people who have my same motor (2 Liter with 1.8 head). The car does ok with the 28mm chokes, but I think it should have a bit more on the top end than it does.
My IDFs are IDF 70 series that were set up for VW use. I got them from eBay of New Zealand where they drive their cars upside down and backward...

Smaller chokes are used to match a engines size / cc lets say the early 124 had a 1438 you might use the 28mmMine are 28mm.
chokes then along with that scca and others have class's and guide lines where choke size is limited to a specific
size i believe there was a class that had 28mm chokes as part of a race class .
28s are to small for a 2L ! if you are using stock cams but the 1800 head 32's should be a good pairing but keep
in mind the carbs will need to be completely re jetted after the choke swap .

Yeah, I know. The rest is there, just needing the chokes! I think it's strange that I can't find the chokes on the Pierce Manifolds site. I might just be missing them on there somewhere, but I can't find any part numbers to compare between the two different carbs.
The only thing I can think of that'd be different on the DCOE choke is that little retaining clip that keeps them from falling out because the carb is horizontal, but that shouldn't make a difference. I remember one of my Alfa Romeo's webers spitting one of its chokes out onto the road during a hard corner; the car still made it home.
If one of y'all've got a set of 32mm chokes lying around...
With the exception of the chokes, here's what's in my car now and what others with slightly upgraded two liter motors with IDFs recommended. At least on the bottom end it's working well for me:
Chokes 32 32 32
Aux Venturi 4.5 4.5
Idles 55 55 55
Mains 135 130 125
Airs 225 210 210
Emulsions F11 F11 F11
pumps 40 50 40
bleedbacks50 35 50
needles 175 200 175
For the most part, I know what I'm doing with Weber carbs. But when I dunno, I get the most friendly & helpful information here, and from Turbo124.com. Thanks to you all, especially if you have some 32mm chokes for me!

Have you tried Evil Bay i mean ebay ? Pierce isn't the best place to look as far as online you may want to call them
that might be better then there website which is dated . Redline is another source also poor website but a large
parts list you might want to check out some VW shops .

I get a good fuel economy with my 36mm chokes on my solex 40's with a 1.8 and can pull full throttle from below 2000rpm.
