drifting vs Racing?
Re: drifting vs Racing?
so, anytime someone disagrees with a member they leave the forum? They must have a difficult time with daily life.
My take on drifting is that it's an exhibition since it's judged and not based on speed, time etc. I don't care for it, but I certainly don't care if others do.

Dood....
I'd apologize to ya... except I'm not sure for what, or that it'd do any good.
Can you not read the first post at all? The one where I say "let's keep it civil... unless it's funny"?
C'mon dood.... REALLY?
How about the part where I say (in at least three posts, two on this thread) that I can appreciate / respect the skill and talent, but I HATE the 'sport'?
REALLY? yer gunna get all bent over that?
And funny-thing: it doesn't look like DriftFiat was offended.... even when I called him on the carpet for snapping at you in the other thread.... ??
REALLY ?? did that pants-on-the-ground homeless guy sleeping in your driveway get you this uptight?
C'mon guys.
Really.
If y'all can't have a conversation.... then WTH?
Never called anyone a name. Never slandered anybody's mother. (even though y'all do that to poor Pope all the time! )
I never insulted anyone's skills or abilities....
I merely called into question (in a tongue-in-cheek method) the sanity of drifting as a worthy pursuit. And I stand by that question! But does that mean I wouldn't help him do it? HELL NO! I'd love to help DriftFiat do it.... even though I'd laugh and point my finger at him the whole time....
So, who'd I push away?
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

Re: drifting vs Racing?
Good gosh fellas. I leave for a weekend and half the forum quits. I have to tell you I didn't see a problem with any of this thread. I found it quite interesting. I enjoy most all forms of racing and drifting holds a certain appeal to me since I also love oval dirt track racing. There is a certain amount of skill required to make a car go where you want it while in a slide and I use a slide to my advantage when I'm gokart racing. I even drifted quite a bit in my Fiat during an autocross event and came in second fastest in the Fiats. I didn't mean to, but my tires were hard and I just kept giving it gas until the sucker hooked up. It was fun!
I hope everyone thinks before they post and if someone said something that was offensive, I'm quite certain they didn't mean it as such. A PM to that person would be a polite way to give them a heads up and it would also keep others from being offended by the carrying on that's been going on here lately. Please, everyone exercise proper forum etiquette. I'd hate to see a good thing die.

Re: drifting vs Racing?
It wasn't me who was offended, in fact it takes more than some internet banter to offend me. I like to roll with the punches and joke around as much as anyone else. I can't speak for the other guys, because I don't know the back story or their exact reasons. I'm not about to speculate, debate, or get in the middle of it. However I think you have me confused with boogiedude, we are both from Hawaii, but he was the one with the sleeping bum, no worries.
I'll still be posting, I got to catch up with Ron.

Re: drifting vs Racing?
I think mom is right. I would like the discussion on why the 124 Spider would make a good drifter? I would think a X 1/9 is more suited. I'll admit I know nothing of Drifting other than seeing pictures. Other than being rear drive which I asume is better, the stock spider weight bias would seem to preclude the effects of drifting or that an asset?

Re: drifting vs Racing?
mid engine cars great to drift if you can get it sideways they are unpredictable because they have a strong tendency to understeer. That being said they can carry more speed through a corner because of the back tires having alot of grip. Most people think you want less grip in the back but you actually want as much as your tires can spin(Which is alot more than you think once your already sliding). The 124 makes a good drift car because of its near 50-50 weight distribution and the car has good suspension geometery. Drifting has alot in commo which road racing the adjustments to the suspension are about the only thing that differs.
Re: drifting vs Racing?
I would imagine the 124 would be a good drift car. good weight distro, similar size and setup to an AE86, and with a tuned engine as much power too. Small light cars like the 124 and hachi can get away with high angle drifts into turns that larger and heavier cars can't. It's one of the reasons the AE86 was and is so successful in racing. IMO, with enough power and suspension upgrades the 124 should be the same.

Re: drifting vs Racing?
What kind of suspension upgrades is required? Do you go with stiff shocks and springs?

Re: drifting vs Racing?
you want to have as little body roll as possible but still have your suspension working nicely. Basicly as i said before road race and drifting setups have alot in common just a few different alignment changes. And even though its not mentioned rally setups have a little bit of both mixed in.
