Thanks Mark, I did find the book order form and going to order it. The cams, valves and springs are something we need to discuss very soon. Can be expecting an order from me within the next 2 weeks for Disty and a few other odds and ends to start with.

Mathew, I downloaded the catalog, will also look at giving you a call soon.

I really appreciate how everyone is helping! Giving me TONS of thoughts and ideas on the direction I need/want to take!

Can someone tell me what size the nut is on the flywheel crank? Need to get a socket to get it off.

A 1 & 1/2 " will take it off.

Ok so the block is BARE! I finished taking apart the bottom end yesterday and inspected the bearings, they looked pretty good actually, still silver.

The cylinders do not look worn but plan on asking about boring anyways since I can go .040 over and get some HC pistons. Is this correct in asking for? I noticed Fiatfactory suggestion on Euro spec'd 2 liter pistons. Where can I find these and if I go with them and they are factory how can I do that if I have the block bored?

I was inspecting the crank, I noticed the real main had been leaking a little and wanted to see about any wear like someone else had stated. I can feel a slight groove perhaps .010 of an inch or less.

Can this be smoothed or will the crank need to be replaced?

I really need to know about the boring today since I plan on searching for a machine shop today and dropping it off before I go home tonight. I already read someone elses post about not having them Megnaflux the block or use an acid bath, use a solvent bath instead? I am going to do a search on someones suggestion on modifying the aux assembly and see if that lends any insight on what I need done.

Really want to get the block machined this week so I can start ordering bearings, pistons, rings etc.

you will need to get pistons before boring the block, otherwise the clearances may not be correct

Bearings, Pistons, Rings ordered from Vick's. I guess the rings are on back order so I have to wait for them to get those in first. The machine shop said the block was superb condition and that .010 over was more than enough to clean it up. The crank had no wear and doesnt need to be turned down. So the block is rough bored and waiting for the pistons.

I am looking at getting the AL flywheel from Millersmule but he is saying 4-6 weeks for one... ouch! Seems like a good deal to get a new AL one instead of paying $200 to get mine lightened. Anyone used one and love it? Also ordering the crank pulley and water pump pulley from Millermule, they seem to have the best prices and someone recommended them.

Next to get...

1. Ignition and disty hole cover from Allison's
2/3. Cams from... Not sure yet on this one. Suggestions?? Was looking at Allison's set. Maybe Vick's since I am getting the head with over sized valves from them anyways.
3/2. 1800 Head from Vick's.
4. Duel 40mm set up from Allison's
5. Very nice header and exhaust from Allison's

Then I can start on the body, she is going to need a lot of love!

Thanks Mark, hopefully he will get back to me so I can get it shipped out to him. Looking at about a month and a half to 2 months to get those items from you guys. Would really love a set of those Gunmetals now but the wife is keeping me "On Budget". Motor first, body second, "Perty" stuff last. What a slave driver! LoL

Well I got my pistons, rings and bearings from Vick's last week and hauled it all in to the race shop. They are match boring and grinding my crank (had to go with .010 under rod bearings to save some time due to back orders). Still waiting on my AL flywheel and crank pulley from Miller's Mule. They tell me it will be done around the first of next month!

After I get that I can haul them in for a finished balancing on the full assembly. They are already getting all the rods and pistons the same weight.

A bit over whelmed on what to start first on the body. Currently working on building a rotary car table that will mount into the removed bumper mounts. Has a full 360 motorized turn table. I built it strong enough to lift the car even after it is back together, for changing oil and anything else I will need to do under the car.

I think I will start on the engine bay this weekend. Getting everything rewired and looking swank. ;)

I need to pull the brake booster and get that cleaned off and painted, looks horrible.

Awesome progress! I am taking my motor to the machine shop today! My machinist said not to order pistons until we make sure at what measurement the bores will clean up.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Well it has been awhile.

I got a bit side tracked. My wife wanted an Early Chevy van and we have been restoring that. 1964 Chevy G10 Panel. Then got a new job and while the nice boost in pay was nice it has brought a lot more responsibility and time involved.

I did get my block back together after it was bored and balanced. I go out every other day in my shop and turn it over and lube it up so it doesnt get pitted or anything. I got some paint the color I will painting the car, Lapis Blue Metallic from House of Kolor, in a car and painted a bunch of the engine parts and clear coated them. They sure do look AWESOME!

I ordered a new oil pump from Vick's today and so will get that installed and the oil pan back on it. I kind of lost my train of thought on what was next on my list to replace but I will get back on track here the next couple weeks. I know I had planned on a dry ignition and a 1800 head for the motor. I guess that will be next inline.

I guess I should really move this to a build thread but since this one is going here I will keep it up.
