Hello !
After telling a friend about the rust problems that face the spider and how I diligently try to keep it out of the rain (which is annoying), he was recommending I use rustoleum - or something similar - and give the car a thorough once-over.
Has anyone tried anything to make their spider rust-proof?

Re: Rustproofing?
Back when I was living on the East Coast in the 70s and 80s, I undercoated my '69 spider with this tar like stuff that came in a gallon bucket. It seems to have helped, and I credit this with keeping my spider relatively rust free in comparison to cars that didn't fare so well.
That being said, my understanding is that a poor rustcoating job can actually makes things worse as moisture can get trapped against the metal. So, do some research, talk to some experts, and go from there.

I have used Waxoyl on my older spider, Just bought three aerosol cans of the stuff. Research it, I plan on using Eastwood rust encapsulator, POR15 on the visible rust areas. Getting into the rockers and frame channels with the Waxoyl and the Eastwood.
Waxoyl has been in use for decades.

Assume after using, you are comfortable driving your spider in the rain from time to time? Or still trying to keep it out of the rain....?

Re: Rustproofing?
For years drain oil has worked very well. I think the first time I read about it was in the 60's when I was messing with English Ford Cortina cars. It was mentioned in a English magazine.Has anyone tried anything to make their spider rust-proof?
Look under your car, anywhere there is oil there most likely is no rust.
We us a garden sprayer and metal tubes we fabricate to reach into areas like the inner rocker panels
yes its messy yes its cheap

I bought some of the WAXOYL stuff and it looks pretty good.
Didn't realize it also paints the sprayed area black.
I did a ounce over on various parts under the car that didn't look so good.
Now Looks Nice Under there
