Blasphemy
Blasphemy
Ok, i'm going to commit the unthinkable. I've started the project to gut out my Fiat 2000 engine and replace it with a Nissan SR20DET, attahced to a Sylvia 4spd Auto, and Skyline LSD. Going to upgrade the brakes and wheels, so i can keep her firmly on the ground. This is the plan, has anyone come across somebody who has done this before?

Different strokes for different folks...just don't expect to get any of your money back if/when you are able to sell it down the road. Why not pick up an old S14 gen 240SX and build it out to a Silvia Spec. GTR? It would be just as fun to build (and much easier) and you wouldn't be nearly as upside down financially as you will be with a Frankenstein Fiat.

Different, yes, but I think it's pretty darn cool. Please take lots of pics and notes.
Re: Blasphemy
The matching slush box to the sr20det is a 4spd. So will make a little easier at one point at least. Also very cheap to purchase, unlike the motor. So Cal Mark wrote:just curious, why a 4sp auto?
Re: Blasphemy
Well the Spider was inherited. So it's not something that i would ever sell. And as cool as the body looks, it's a 100hp, my lawn mower has nearly as much power. So i figure i will build something rather unusual, and very fun to drive on Sundays. I'm not worried about cost, it's going to be a long term love affair.kristoj wrote:Different strokes for different folks...just don't expect to get any of your money back if/when you are able to sell it down the road. FrankenFiat not bad, it's known as Millze, after the last owner. Who would totally agree with your sentiments and roll in his grave if he knew what i was up to.

Were you not on the otherside of the planet, I would buy the drivetrain from you...

Re: Blasphemy
I'm going to have to step in here to rant about how much I dislike the sr20det.
My brother and I have been in the market for a 95 240sx and quite frankly, we are sick of only finding cars with the swap done.
The original ka24de engine is a much much much better engine than the sr20det. Through a turbo on the ka24 and it will pump out way more power than the sr20 for half the cost of the swap, and you still get to pass smog!
The ka24 is a cast iron block and I believe the sr20 is aluminum and has problems with breaking under loads of power. Also the head of the ka24 is better than the sr20.
And simply, the ka24 naturally aspirated pumps out more hp and torque than the sr20 naturally aspirated.
The end. Since someone mentioned the sr20, I had to vent.

KA can be ghetto turbocharged for cheap, but that engine has to be lightly built and combined with a decent engine managment before it will compare in both performance and long term reliability to a sr20det. Modifications aside. Bring mods into the equation, and the advantage slides even further into the sr's favor. Anyone makes plug and play piggy backs which in combination with external mods can bring the sr into stupid hp especially for a Fiat chassis.

Re: Blasphemy
For the Fiat chassy maybe but not in the 240. The ka24 is a much stronger engine being able to carry a larger turbo, and ghetto turbo'd or not, I have never seen an sr get in the range of a ka, upwards of 700-1000hp
But then again we are on the Fiat forum not the Nissan, and in that respect, I do think you'd have a bad ass little car with the sr in it

As with any engine with forged internals lots of power is possible. That being said this article does a good job pointing out the engines flaws, and why I still suggest for 99.9% of the people an sr. I am no sr expert, but the aftermarket support is huge, the methods are tested, and the hp is guaranteed reliably. That being said a 350whp s13 shreds tires and is all most people building cars for anything bu drag racing needs to shoot for.
So I am still saying potential is in the goals of the beholder. Cast aluminum block hondas also produce 350whp..... scary

Re: Blasphemy
I would be more interested in the logistics of getting an SR20 into the Fiat.
I'd imagine you'd need custom motor-mounts, a custom driveshaft, etc etc.

Hey, go for it, it is not like the cars are worth tons of bucks bone stock anyway. That might be a cool car. I have less problem with that kind of mod than making the cars ugly with tacky body and interior mods. Keep us posted!45South wrote:Well the Spider was inherited. Re: Blasphemy
my son actually talked about an sr20 swap into a spider a while ago. he did that turbo swap into his 240 a couple years ago.car was fast but still lost to my other sons 95 integra. i think it would be a cool swap. my son and i are slowly working on honda swaps into our 74 x,s, using jap spec motors. and someone local is working on a turbo mitsu swap into his spider. i opted for fiat power in my spider though, and i couldnt be happier with that car. its your car, do what ever makes you happy.
Re: Blasphemy
Did anyone ever complete this task?! I had the same thoughts of it but also with a swap with a 2.3 svo mustang, the wheel base is 11" longer than the fiat so custom drive shaft and 6" wider, so fender flares?? Maybe anyone got any thought on this??
