Forged HC Pistons

Post by Wfolland »

Looking to source new pistons for my 81 FI, 2 liter engine. Any suggestions as to a vendor in the USA to supply them? Plan to bore block out to 84.6mm. My engine type is 132C3.031, I have measured the combustion chamber cc's at 51.8cc's but could use your help at understanding what the deck height on my unmodified block is. Assume any piston mfg. will need this information.

Ya didn't see them either... Very interested.... Just picked up a 78 1800 motor and trans and looking to build it up!!! Going to do the motor then the trans. Not race, but maybe 1 or 2 steps below :) I'm still in the break down of it. Any suggestions are always welcome!!! I did see not to hot tank it but treat like an aluminum block when having it cleaned

Cheers!!

Mark, yesterday I ordered Ross pistons from your shop, the individual I spoke to was quite helpful. Am working out final spec's for the pistons as we speak. Please pass on the attached file that contains the spec's for the cams that will be in my rebuild, your man requested them. If you don't mind I would be interested in what you think of the grind on these cams ?, Hopefully I received good advice as to the grind for a HP street engine. Again thanks for your help.

Having problem attaching file, will try to send in separate post.

I have to ask... In the toyota world you get forged pistons when you are boosting or running nitrous. Otherwise, good cast pistons are preferred for price... Unless you are revving the hell out of it. On a relatively low power and typically low rpm (sub 7k) street engine... Why do you want to pay forged piston money?

The weight of HC domed pistons are so much heavier than OE pistons was my main concern. I would assume extra weight means extra load, thus shorter life for the rod/crank bearings. When you're spending several $,$$$.$$ on a rebuils $$$.$$ seems to be a no brainer.

I have always been under the impression that forged pistons are heavier than cast pistons... denser material.

If you don't mind my asking, what is your RPM/hp goal? You going to be running >10:1 compression?

No goal for rpm, hope to approach 180 hp. Running duel Weber 40 IDF's,HP cams by Megacycle, upgraded ignition plus other upgrades that will be suggested by the shop that is building the engine.
