Re: Upgrading carb on 79 to Weber 32/36 DFEV
It's supposed to be a tight fit on the shaft. My nut only just fits on the end. Taking out the spacer washer can mean that the throttle doesn't travel as far as it needs to to open up the carb, or.. that it ends up snagging and sticking (open or shut, that's bad news!).
btw... jason does a .5" and a 1" spacer - any more and you run the risk of snagging on the hood?

Thanks - I will look for a thin washer to replace the thicker one and see how things fit.

ok - one last item - in a perfect world - if i could get this linkage adapter, I think all my problems would be solved and I could re=install the spacer washer that came stock - does anyone know where I can get one of these plates???

thanks - the image I posted would perfectly solve the attachment for the ball socket and the lever for the accelrator advance rod - the first link might work - the 2nd link will come in handy if I have issues with my throttle linkage once I hook everything up.
anyone else - is the plate in my image available anywhere?????

Re: Upgrading carb on 79 to Weber 32/36 DFEV
Toplessexpat - thanks, I have that topic bookmarked and have read it many times - but the carb in that post is different than mine - as the black throttle linkage on my new carb pushes the rod connected to the accelrator pump whereas the one in the post does not. thanks for digging though! if I could get the throttle plate I posted a pic of - I think my linkage would go in one of the lower holes while my ball would go in the top single hole - just not having any luck finding that plate!

Re: Upgrading carb on 79 to Weber 32/36 DFEV
I see what you're saying now!
Ok - the assumption you've got is that your throttle linkage will open at the same rate as the accelerator pump - is that valid?
On my 38ADL, there's a separate arm that goes back to the pump, and it moves at a different rate to the throttle....
How about using the arm from this kit (http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/101.099.htm) coupled with the second one I listed earlier? Space on the shaft?

I am thinking the universal linkage kit with the plate withseveral holes might be my best option. I think for now i will install it with the washer missing and the ball arm behind the stock linkage piece and see how it works. The plate i am looking fir dies not seem to exist anywhere! will keep you posted

I was going to say that you're nuts, but it turns out there is more than one kind of 32/36 DFEV/DFAV.
You have this kind:
Part number 24 clearly controls part number 42 directly.
On the vintage weber dfav i am rebuilding, that black outer part is separate, and the bit that connects to part 42 has no additional function. I took off the outer bit and swapped on part of the linkage from my old ADFA. I haven't tried to install it yet but i don't see why it wouldn't work.
And of course, the diagram of a 32/36 DFAV in the older (green) Haynes weber book shows a part 24 which has a ball stud on it already that would require no adaptation.

this might be just the thing:

Edit: never mind, it's just the thing for MY carburetor.

Re: Upgrading carb on 79 to Weber 32/36 DFEV
so, in the end, I ended up emailing Redline, and got a response from a guy there named Bud - who was very helpful. He informed me the carb I purchases was a "generic" replacement, whereas they sell carbs kitted for specific cars - including Fiat Spiders. in the end, he told me I needed to purchase a Weber Linkage kit 99007.115 - and from that, take the piece I was needing (see earlier image). this allowed me to keep the washer, remove the black piece, and now everything fits perfect. have not installed it yet, because I am fixing other things before I put it all back together (new starter, fixing steering box) but using the linkage rod that came stock - it feels like it will pull perfectly - maybe a little tweak to the bend on the rod if necessary - but I think I am good to go! thanks to all - and my advice - if you need a new carb - call Redline - they even offered to help me dial it in even though I did not purchase it from them! odds are I will need to change out my jets, due to altitude and slightly higher compression pistons - I will figure that out once I get it fired back up!
Re: Upgrading carb on 79 to Weber 32/36 DFEV
All - an update on my progress - THE FIAT LIVES - what started as "replace the intake and carb" ended up including a new starter (because I was in there and figured if I put it all back together and did not do something, the starter would be next to die - nee Densco starter - it is SWEET for $200), a new idler arm and re-build steering box, new center link on my suspension and the car fired up and drove - on the first day. the day after - would not idle, run, or drive at all. some introspection, and starring at all my hard work, and I realized "I have owned this car for 27 years and can't recall if/when I EVER replaced my fuel filter. take it off, watch dirt and sludge poor out the bottom, replace it with a new one, and presto - it runs great - but suddenly - a "rattling noise" - from the alternator, which was put on 2 summers ago new. remove, take it to a local alternator shop, only to find out when replaced, the guy forgot the spacer between the fan and the pulley. put in a spacer, paint the fan and pulley (why not) and today was my first highway drive to work - and HELL YES - power, torque, responsiveness (all you can get from a Fiat Spider mind you) - no flat spot in the high end (most likely the fuel filter - but the old carb did need to go!). get an alignment this afternoon and then service my drive shaft/flex seal, replace the stereo and center console and drive, drive, drive! thanks to all on this site for all your posts, responses, and emails! now if I can only figure out what that "clicking/clunking" noise is from the right front end (loose caliper, shock tower????) I will be good to go....... the joys of an older sports car! will post a couple of photos later ........
