Head Stud Kits

Post by So Cal Mark »

I now have head stud kits for the twin cam in stock. We had these made to order. They are grade 8, have a 1/8" hex on the top to install or remove the studs and when paired with our mls head gaskets, will provide superior sealing on your motor. Studs provide much better clamping than head bolts, since they don't distorte the block when torqued. They are available in our ebay store or website, or by calling the shop directly.

Do you stick with the standard 61.5 foot pounds of torque when using the studs or do you bump it up some?

Thanks

we actually use less torque with the stud kits. 54 ft lbs. Less torque is needed since it's a more accurate clamping method. Rather than pulling on the threads in the block, the nut on top of the stud is holding the head down

I'll be buying these soon. I have high compression and blew a "performance" head gasket after 20k. Have a 5 layer on now but I hate head bolts and I see this as preventative. Can you just swap them one at a time?

yes, you can install them that way. It's much easier than trying to slide the head over 10 studs
